BAIC sodium-ion battery completes testing
According to BAIC’s research division, the company has completed development of a sodium-ion battery prototype whose technical specifications are said to be among the industry’s leading standards. The battery uses a prismatic cell and, based on internal testing, delivers an energy density of 170 Wh/kg.
Charging performance and cold-weather operation
BAIC says the system supports 4C rapid charging, allowing a full charge in 11 minutes. The company also stated that the battery operates between -40°C and 60°C. At -20°C, it retains more than 92% of its capacity, providing improved performance in cold climates.
Safety test results
Safety-related test results were released following an internal assessment. The company said the battery can withstand overcharging to 200% state of charge without catching fire or exploding, and remains stable when exposed to 200°C during thermal-resistance testing.
BAIC added that it has the required capabilities in electrolyte development, cell design and system integration, while continuing to address challenges involving energy density and cycle performance.
