How to Clean Glass with Vinegar, Washing-up Liquid and Water

Keeping glass windows and doors free from streaks can be difficult, particularly as dust, grease and rain marks build up over time. A well-known homemade solution uses just three straightforward ingredients: white vinegar, mild washing-up liquid and water. Used properly, this mixture can help lift light dirt and leave glass looking clearer, without requiring dedicated glass-cleaning products.

Why does the vinegar, washing-up liquid and water mixture work?

Each component has a distinct role in the cleaning process. Mild washing-up liquid helps break down greasy residue and other everyday grime, while white vinegar helps remove water marks and limits the appearance of streaks as the surface dries.

Water dilutes the mixture, making it easier to apply while preventing too much product from being left on the glass. Cleaning tends to be more even when the surface is finished with a clean microfibre cloth.
